Oak Furniture

In every home across the United States are bedrooms with furniture set up for people to use. Bedroom furniture has a rich history behind it that is unique in every way. In the early days of bedroom furniture desk, dressers, night stands, and even beds themselves were made out of oak. People all over the world desired the pieces of furniture because it allowed them to make a statement for themselves and their families.

The earliest pieces of furniture made of oak can be traced back to the Dark Ages. Oak is one of the woods that can be found in abundance in Europe. Oak furniture was the premier choice for people because the wood is hard and lasts a long time. Oak was chosen as a wood to use in furniture because people wanted something that would last a long time. Oak is said to last up to over 100 years. It is very strong and has attractive grain with it. Many of the fist pieces of furniture were benches and simple pieces. As the craft was learned more and more complex designs began to emerge. In the middle ages rich people would buy elaborate pieces of furniture to show off their money. Big bedroom sets were made and many people bought them. In the 1600’s oak stopped being a choice of wood as other woods started being used. People realized that other types of would gave a lighter look to the wood. For the first time people had a choice with color.

In the United States oak furniture made a comeback in the 20th century. Companies began to produce the sets of furniture that are found in most stores across this country. People began to realize that wood working was an art to be learned and prided themselves on mastering the craft. Tool companies picked up on the desire to work with wood and began producing tools for the garage that could handle wood workers all across the country. The United States has become the leader in oak furniture and will continue to do so well into the future.
